Video Tips from Gordon Goodwin’s Big Phat Band: Listening to the Band

Last month we shared a video from Gordon Goodwin’s Big Phat Band, where band members shared advice to help your students master difficult passages. Today we’re delighted to share more great insight from the group.

Listening to the Band

In this, the second of a series of performance advice videos, members of the Big Phat Band talk about how to listen to the other members of your jazz band.

While you undoubtedly encourage your students to listen, sometimes it helps to hear this advice from someone else, too. Especially when that someone else is Wayne Bergeron!

Appearing in today’s video are:

  • Ray Brinker (drums) and Kevin Axt (bass)
  • Andy Martin (trombone) and Wayne Bergeron (trumpet)
  • Sal Lozano (sax) and Eric Marienthal (sax)

If you enjoyed the video, be sure to check out the posts on “Mastering Difficult Passages” and “When It Goes Off the Rails,” too.
