There is a new term that has become prominent in our music educator world: Zoom Fatigue. Something different happens in our minds when we’re on camera. It can be exhausting, and part of it—or maybe most of it—is because we’re performing! We’re hyper aware of how we look, what we say, and how we are perceived. Extend that to the fact that every time we’re in front of people, cameras, or our students, we are putting on our performance hat.
Today’s episode addresses performance—not just standing on a stage or playing for a camera, but the little performances we have to do all of the time, this ubiquitous visibility in the digital world that is far beyond what we experience in the in-person world.
I am so pleased to have the wonderful Jeff Nelson join me for this episode. Jeff is not only the horn professor from Indiana University, he is one fifth of the world-famous chamber ensemble the Canadian Brass and co-founder of the OTP Collective. We’ll talk about all the things performance-associated. How can we feel more prepared for any performance, of any size? What are the mindsets we can adopt that will help us? How can being a better, more confident performer serve us throughout our lives? Jeff shares with us today some of his very best tips and tricks that have made him the world-class embodiment of confidence that he is.
